A six-session masterclass with Mobina Mohammadvali, moving from inspiration and form extraction to jewellery design, modelling strategy, and a final 3D model.
The central problem
Inspiration becomes design only when it moves beyond copying.
A leaf, building, or movement should not be translated literally into jewellery. The course teaches participants to extract formal qualities, build distinct directions, and choose a 3D-modelling strategy only after the design has been resolved.
Masterclass scope
Six sessions, one continuous path from inspiration to 3D.
Each session advances the same final project. Matrix/Rhino enters the path in session five, but the objective is not command training; it is choosing the right modelling strategy for a form resolved across the first four sessions.

Finding Inspiration
Distinguish inspiration from copying; find sources beyond jewellery in nature, architecture, the body, movement, texture, objects, stories, or abstract concepts; select a subject, conduct visual research, and build a moodboard.

Inspiration to Form
Rather than turning the source directly into jewellery, extract its formal qualities: line, rhythm, repetition, volume, negative space, proportion, tension, and twist. Then build several distinct forms from one reference.

Form Development
Develop the initial form through simplification, scale shifts, combination, subtraction, addition, and variation. Produce five to ten studies from one idea and select the strongest direction deliberately.

Form to Jewelry
Place the form on the body without losing its identity, translating it into a ring, earring, pendant, or brooch. Introduce ergonomics, dimensions, thickness, stone placement, and making logic at this stage.

Form to 3D
Move into Matrix/Rhino without turning the session into a tool tutorial. Choose the right strategy for each form—curve-based, surface, solid, SubD, or hybrid—and preserve the design’s character from sketch to 3D.

Final Piece
Complete the model, refine form and proportions, review manufacturability and final details, and present the project in a closing critique.
Project direction
One complete path, from a source of inspiration to a final 3D model.
By the end, each participant should have completed and documented this full chain in one defensible project: Inspiration → Research → Form Extraction → Form Development → Jewelry Design → 3D Model. The outcome is not only the final model, but the logic of the decisions that produced it.

Jewellery designer and digital jewellery design instructorMobina Mohammadvali has more than eight years of experience in digital jewellery design and has taught the field for the past three years. Her work focuses on precise modelling, contemporary form, and the relationship between technology, structure, and concept. In 2026, her Connection jewellery set received a Bronze A’ Design Award.
